I'll sure think twice about submitting a recipe.

Stating one's dislike for a recipe is not a sign of ingratitude. Yes it was generous that she submitted the recipe (although it is not her recipe as she has stated in more than one thread). No one has said Eww it is gross, or icky buttercream. The comments are tactful discussing why people do not prefer it. You are right folks should not post recipes if they cannot take reasonable discussion about the why they like it or dislike.

This was PERFECTLY stated. Well said.

And OP, I didn't find the title to your thread the least bit rude. I thought you sounded like you sincererly were trying to find out f you did something wrong. Don't let pot stirrers or drama seekers make you feel like you did anything wrong. HEck, this thread has actually provided a lot of useful information to others, myself included. So thanks. thumbs_up.gif

QTCakes - I agree completely. The manner in which the OP was taken to task for stating her issue with this recipe was rude.

I agree that Indydebi is more than generous with her time and advice, but that doesn't mean everyone must like everything she creates or agree with everything she says. I'm sure she doesn't expect it, either. She has "big girl panties" and and sure can handle being disagreed with from time to time.

I also think the manner in which most who don't care for this icing explained their opinions were also done in a tactful way. I truly hope the OP isn't deterred from posting in the future.

Now if the OP had titled the post "Indydebi's icing sucks, anyone agree?" - that would be rude.

What about substituting high ratio shortening for the crisco it doesn't leave a greasy crisco feel in your mouth! I don't think it's a 1-1 substitution but it might work

Every caker has to find what works for them and their customers.  I love Charlotte's icing, have tried Indy's, and it wasn't my fav, probably because I like Charlotte's so much.  Know what I don't like?  IMBC and SMBC.  Go figure.  And yes, I know how to make each properly.  Still don't like 'em.  Make what works for you!

Crisco has changed several times in the last few years, and it changes fairly often. They ruined it for bakers when they took out the cottonseed oil.

For stability, you can get the same thing with high-ratio or palm shortening. Yes, it costs more.

I find the new Crisco to be repulsive. There isn't enough Princess Flavoring in the world to hide that greasy mouth-feel.  JMHO.
