I have been caught up in the Casey Anthony Trail (Florida peeps will know what I am talking about) so I have not bee hanging around CC as much.
Any new must do cakes? do we have the new "rose cake" to hit CC or are we still waiting for a new thing.

(Ps I still totally need to do a rose cake! I love it, just need the right time/reason)

Nope I think the Casey Anthony Trail is just about known everywhere. I'm from B.C. and heard about it since it first happened. But I can't follow those kinds of stories-just don't want to think about what happened to Kaylee, it's just too sad.

I'm not getting the rose cake...the overall shape looks all wrong to me...or perhaps I've just not seen good examples of it?

I'm lovin the maggie austin type cakes with the ruffles and realistic gum paste flowers but that's just me. I don't tend to follow the crowd much.icon_wink.gif

I love Maggie Austin's style as well but never in a million years will I ever come close to doing a cake like that....so perfect, pristine and elegant.

I've tried the rose cake twice and perhaps after I've made twenty more, I'll get the technique down enough to send the cake out the door.

Yeah, from my research it is extremely thin fondant. I want to try it but I think I'm a bit intimidated icon_smile.gif She does beautiful work. Did you see the Tiffany inspired cake and the cookies?

I agree, the top starts out pretty but then it kinda doesn't work as a rose to me. Just like ruffled sides...Maybe that's the idea??

The I am Baker Rose cake is super cute and anyone can do it! The new Rose cake tutorial I really don't like. SORRY!!! Not trying to offend the person that created it, I just don't find it to be very appealing to me. I think it was a cute idea, maybe don't make it so tall?

But sweetmonkeycheese hasn't been gone for long, right? Just a few days? A week or two?

Maybe you didn't miss much!

I popped on b/c I was making a going away cake for my son - He is working on a cruise ship in Hawaii!!! can you even believe it!!! I am so happy for him!

but I have not been going through the galleries like I use to (daily) I use to not miss a single cake, but I have been caked out and my attention has been drawn to the CA case. I was at Gator Fred's w/ the wee-lil-one and had some down time so I thought I would look at the galleries and I had thought about the rose cake and wondered if there were any new easy but super cool cakes that I might have missed.

Frankly yes, the first tier. The second tier did go faster, but still, it's fiddley.
