in a batch of cookie dough do you get? I made a single batch, first time cookies from scratch, I got 32 cookies using different cookie shapes... I am making just a mixture to try them out.., is that about the norm?

It varies by the recipe and the size and shape of the cookies you're making. I think experimenting with a batch is really the only way to find out.

It will also depend on the thickness you make your cookies.
