Hi,

I am making a dolphin cake for a friend. She wants gumpaste 3D dolphins on the top of her cake. My question is this: What gauge of wire would you suggest in these figures... each dolphin will be either diving or twisting, so the wire would need to hold the weight of them. Anyone have any suggestions for this? Thanks so much! icon_smile.gif

I usually use 18 gauge wire for heavier gumpaste decorations. If you're making really large pieces, you can always use several wires.

Ah, good idea on doubling up.. Thanks! Luckily the cake isn't due for another month so I have some good practice time. I've read that using coffee stir straws inserted into the cake will help keep the wire from ripping the cake... so I'll try both of those things. Thanks!!!!! icon_smile.gif
