Hi, I was wondering how to get the buttercream perfectly smooth, i know the techniques like rolling it with the smooth paint roller & the viva papertowel. I use the paint roller & it works pretty good, but i see alot of ppls cakes & theirs are flawless. How can i get it that way? Is their a certain buttercream i should be using instead? thanks
Indydebi's bc and Sugarshacks bc both smooth very well. You might try one of those recipes.
Check out SugarShack's YouTube videos. Great, smooth b'cream is all about making it just right.
One can even get smooth icing finish using the (IMHO horrible) Wilton recipe when you get the consistency right

To get my buttercream smooth, I put a crumb coat on it and don't care if there are crumbs. Then I put it in the fridge for about 20 minutes and then take it out and put a top layer on. To make it smooth, I dip my spatula in a cup of hot water and then smooth the icing out.
