I'm not sure about those areas... But Connecticut has a cake competition they hold in February, so it's too late for 2011, but it will be early in 2012. They have a page on FB if you want to "like" them so you get news and updates when it gets closer to the competition. It's called Connecticut Cake Competition.
Not sure if you're willing to travel that far, but it's in the general area you were asking about. Hope that helps!
