Hi CCer's,

I accepted to decorate a wedding cake for saturday. The bride and her family baked the cakes (fruit cakes) and delivered them to me last night. I have to make the middle tier which would be a redvelvet. The cakes they delivered are HORRIBLE! To say the least, they are dry, hard as rock and taste like there's salt in there instead of sugar. Should I tell them about it or just keep my mouth shut and decorate the cake? They also have a balance for me, should I request it before I go to set up at the venue?

A lot of people won't agree to decorate someone else's cake for that reason. Could you brush the cakes with a sugar syrup (laced with rum, since it's a fruitcake) to moisten them?
