Hi guys,

Been searching in galleries and haven't seen this done before, I'm wanting to make a cake in the open book shape pan, and have the characters flying out of the book using wires.

I was wondering if anyone knows how thick a cake nees to be to support wires - I've only seen them put in tiered cakes - wondering if a 3" high cake can support them or not?

The characters will be 2D tp try and keep the weight to a minimum.

If the wires won't work, any other ideas?

Thanks!

I would put the cake on a foam core board and push the wires intot he foam core for stability.

I made a volcano cake recently and placed it on a styrofoam cake dummy covered in woodgrain shelf paper. Needed something to push the stems of the palm trees into so I think this is the way to go with your open book cake - for support of the wires.

I can't say that I have any ideas for you, but I would love to see a picture of it when you're done!
