I'm working on ideas for my niece's 15th birthday cake. She requested a dance cake and I have the idea in mind of what I want to do. I'm planning to do a sorta bust of her in one of her outfits from her dance shows this year. For the specific dance she has her hair all poofed out and I'm trying to figure out how to do that and make it look somewhat realistic but still edible. I've had a friend at school suggest spun sugar but I'm looking for other options too. Anybody have any ideas?

TIA

If you go with spun sugar I'd say to do it very last minute as sugar work tends to absorb moisture from humid air and melt, if you can spray it with an edible clear glaze that helps it last longer.

You could also use gum paste forced through a clay extruder, a fine nozzle would give several strands at once which you could bunch up, place on the bust, stlye and let dry- that would be a time consuming job though!

A final thought would be kids sweet laces, they come in lots of flavours and colours?
