For those of you that have the larger mixers, which one do you prefer? I am looking at buying a used hobart, about a 20 qt. A new one is no in my budget. I have also been looking at a berkel, because I can by a new one for the same price I can buy the used hobart. Don't know what do do??? Please let me know what your opinons are??????

I bought a used 20qt Hobart. They are workhorses - forever it seems.

Hobart is the "gold standard" in mixers.

The one I have found has 3 speeds. I have been told those are the ones that I need to be looking for because the newer ones have the gears where you don't have to stop the mixer to change speeds and I think they are 5 speeds. Any suggestions on this part??

When I opened my first shop I bought a 30 qt Hobart mixer that's still going strong (after thirty plus years). After I sold that shop I bought a 20 qt used Hobart mixer. Three speeds, no timer, and never had any problems. Buy a Hobart and you won't be sorry! Good luck!!
