Have any of you been able to check out the new Wilton products now available in Hobby Lobby, Micheal's...What do you think? What products get your thumbs up and which, if any, get a thumbs down?
I used one of their new fondant molds (the one with the pearls, leaves, and roses) worked perfectly!
I have not had a chance to play with the new stuff so much, but personally as a WMI I am IN LOVE with the new Fondant mat. It is twice the size of the practice board with two layers of plastic making it possible to cut so many more pieces of gumpaste out. The punch, cut, deocarte line is really easy to use, but I don't see myself using it a lot, but have also not explored all the possible options with it. The new Gum Paste kit looks great as does the new tool kit, especially now that wilton is exploring more and more with wired flowers.
I had a look at the silicone molds -- they look great. But I didn't buy... yet. I did pick up the new brushes. Love them. Especially the plastic handles. No more paint to chip off (and into my fondant). I also picked up the flower drying rack. Haven't used it yet, but was thrilled at the 5.99 price. My hubby was gonna build me one, but that would have cost a lot more.
I love that we have new stuff out. And as I WMI I am excited that more people in my area can get a hold of some products locally more easily. I haven't tried anything out yet, but I do hope so soon.
I did try out the punch sets last night. They are easy to use, and the sugar paper actually tastes pretty good, it has a slight vanilla taste to it. I'm not sure it is something I would use it a lot in my style of decorating, but there are some cute things that can be done with it.
I have a long list of things that I want to get but so far the only things I've gotten is the cake marker, a deluxe set of paint brushes and the mold that someone before mentioned wiht the pearls and the roses. I haven't used any of them yet though. I want to get those tweezers that they are gonna have (my stores locally don't have a lot of the stuff yet), the tool set, the new flower cutters, the gumpaster saver mat, the cut and spin thing, the flower mold that details gum paste, the circle cutter, and I'm sure that there are others. I can only buy stuff when I sell cakes though so it will be a long time coming before I can get all things that I want.
Oh, and of course, I want to get the new yearbook when it comes out next month. I think I am going to get 2 of the sugar sheets to use this weekend for a graduation cake that I am going to be doing.
I stop in to Hobby Lobby twice a month when my daughter is at her art class. I was so surprised to see all of the new Wilton stuff. I didn't buy anything yet. I'll pick them up a little at a time, with a coupon of course. The Michaels by my house does not yet have the new items. I will probably buy the molds, the flower/leaf veiner press, the color dusts, the flower drying rack, and a few of the tools. I know the Wilton stuff is generally not as good as the professional stuff, but since this is a hobby for me, I can't justify spending $25 on one professional mold, when I can get three of the Wilton molds for the same price. I only make 5-7 cakes a year.
I purchased the new flower impression set and didnt know that there was a wire stem groove on the back of the form until I turned it over to wash it....Love it so far
Sounds like a field trip is needed! I couldn't find some of these new products on the Wilton site.
You have to look around for them on the Wilton site. All new stuff, but not in the new stuff section? That's pretty ??
Alot of it is in the gumpaste and fondant sections.
Yeah I had a hard time finding any of the new goodies on the wilton site. I did end up at HL today and got the flower impression set and the cake marker. It was sure hard not to buy it all! I used the impression set already and i'm really impressed I'm not usually a wilton fan but they did a good job on quality and price.
My husband bought me two of the fondant molds for Mother's Day. I've only used the blue Baroque one but I LOVE it! So easy to use and now I don't have to hand roll individual pearls!
I just bought the baroque mold for the pearl border because I couldn't spend +$20 for a pearl mold (hobbyist). It's nice to know that the pearl border works well! Has anyone tried the new dusts? They have pearl, metallic and colors. I know they used to have a gold and silver sparkly dust that was horrible, but I'm hoping the new stuff is different/better.
Our Hobby Lobby is now carrying Americolor bottled colors. Pretty good selection and $1.18 each (my local bakery supply is $1.99 each and further away!)
So much new stuff! ... can't wait to check it out. Saw a few new items at Joann's yesterday but didn't have time to really examine anything.

Same here! Can't wait to use it!
I just used the flower impression set for the first time and I have to say that I really like it. It is so convienent because what you need is all on two pieces....I just made some rose leaves and the veiner for that works and makes them looks great. I also purchased the global set the other day and cannot wait to use it....
Has anyone tried the new dusts? They have pearl, metallic and colors.
The pearl dusts aren't new (the color dusts are, I don't know about the metallic.) I've had them for a few years now. I use the white/pearl colored one for pearls and the pink for cheeks on faces. They are not as pearly as the super pearl I bought from Jennifer Dontz, but they are pretty good for my purposes.
I just bought the button mold, can't wait to use it. I can't believe the great price! I have several "first impression" moulds and they are quite expensive. It's nice to have a less expensive option. Also I don't have to pay shipping and handling! I found mine at "JoAnns".

the color dusts aren't new either. i bought them from michaels last year when i did my wilton classes. thy didn't have the metalic set tho, but i have the other 2. the molds look pretty cool. i have never used one before. i got a michaels gift card for mothers day so i think i'll go check out all the new stuff!
Oops, sorry! I'm wondering if Wilton was testing some products in different markets. I have never seen the color dust before yesterday. I go down the Wilton aisle of Joann, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby almost weekly. This is good, so maybe some people can give us a review. Chonte, how do you like the color dusts?
I bought, used and like the gumpaste flower cutter set, molds(love all 4 of them) and rosebuds. All great quality for a reasonable price.
I also stared at each product in the store, even have sugar sheets in Zebra!!! but Im wondering if they wont dissolve on the cake and when you cut into them, if they dont cut/tear right....
saw all the fondant toys also...I was like a kid in a candy store!
bad enough honey calls CC my porno...lol
Ohhh! just went to Joanns and saw their stuff. Plus there is a %60 off coupon from the mail which made my purchase even cheaper. I did see that duff also has new stuff including an air brush and cake jewelery. I do have a question. I bought the old wilton gumpase flower kit and am wondering if i should buy the new one or if it's too much of a repeat. i did notice that they have a calla lilli mold, dogwood mold and a rose mold. ok, i think i just talked myself into buying it.
Thanks for responding. I've never seen the color dusts before this week either. The pearl/metallic ones say that you mix it with clear vanilla (like super pearl) to paint it on. I'm not sure that the older ones said that. Oh well...

sorry for some reason im not getting any notifications. the instructions on the package says to sprinkle them onto damp fondant/ gumpaste. i have tried mixing them with alcohol like u would a luster dust. they don't dont dislove as well as luster dust so i found i had to use a little more liguid when i mixed, other then that i like them, it's nice having non pearlized colors to play with!!
I just saw this yesterday! I can't wait to buy them. Even if they end up cheap quality at least they'll be good for practice. I couldn't believe all that they had to offer.

Maybe y'all are talking about two different dusts.
Michaels/Wilton has had shimmer dusts for several years now. For them you wet the surface and sprinkle them on to it. They are sold in a three pack of colors.

Michaels/Wilton have also had their pearl line of dusts for about two years, increasing the colors offered last year. These are like luster dusts, as they have the shimmery effects to the colors. These come in a single package and is a tall skinny tube.

This is the first time they have had the 'Color Dusts'. These would be like petal dusts, they are a matte dust.

I won't claim to be in the total know with all that is Wilton. But I have been teaching the Wilton classes at Michaels for 7 years now, and this is the first time I have heard of Wilton having actual 'color dusts'.
So far, I can only get the low priced things. Bought the cake marker, one of the molds, the one with the pearls, the rotarty cutter, and the fine tweezers. I haven't had a chance to use them yet. Finished a cake last night, but it didn't require my new stuff yet.
I can't wait to get some more new things.
