Okay another question I am transporting a 3 tier cake to my friends wedding. I am assembling on sight.

Would a center dowel be needed or would support dowels in each tier be enough if its not being moved around?

If assembling on site, a center dowel isn't necessary after transporting.

you won't need the dowel through the middle of the cake unless you need to transport it fully assembled. I have to make a 4 tiered cake next week but plan to assemble it at the church building so was only going to put the straws in each tier. However, just found out it may need to be moved after I put it together so I will have to use a dowel rod after all just to be safe![/list]

You will not need a center dowel. You only need a center dowel if you are transporting the cake assembled. Good luck!
