Hi i am decorating a Union jack cake tomorrow and am undecided whether to just decorate the top of the cake with the flag, on a white background, or to continue the flag pattern down the sides of the cake. What's the general consensus amongst you guys? Tfl.

I'd say just the top, with white or whatever color you want around the sides. The thing is, flags are pieces of cloth, not solid objects, which is what your cake would look like if you took the colors down the sides. What does everybody else think?

I would carve the cake into a flag shape. Planet cake has a good one in there book. And then just decorate the top, I wouldn't carry it over the side. It would make it more difficult too because of the diagonal strips going over corners.
