I have a couple different types of cake pans that I have purchased, but I am not happy with the way they are baking. What types of things should I look for when buying a good one?

i always buy tin pans, as they cook better and last a lifetime, look for a good quality which usually comes with a reputable brand, something that has straight sides and something that is atleast 7cm deep - not sure what that is in inches, you can get ones that are deeper, but make sure that you have sets of the same depth for when you do tired cakes.
hope this helped, good luck
