I've been asked to make an Air Force retirement cake and the gentleman saw this pic online of a cake with an American flag drapped on it. The only thing is the red and white stripes on this look amazing, as if they are only one piece. It doesn't look like strips of red were placed on this because the surface is so smooth and clean. I can't imagine even slightly flattening it with a rollling pin and getting that look. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried adding an attachment but it didn't work. If you go to Google Images and search "Navy retirement cake" it's the second or third pic to show up. There are some attempts at copying this cake on there but I think if you look at the pics you can tell which one I'm talking about.

If so, it looks like the red stripes were rolled super thin and then applied to a white piece of fondant.

I guess, I can't seem to think of any other way to do it. Thanks: )
