im making a small round 8 in cake for my friends birthday this weekend and i want to stripe the sides of the cake with sprinkles! its that possible?
its going to be a buttercream covered cake and i want vertical 1/2 in sprinkle stripes going from the cake board to the top edge and have buttercream space betweent the stripes all the way around.
i know people use fondant and just lay the strips up and what not
but does any one have any idea how i would get the sprinkles to stick up in straight stripe form without getting all over(sticking all over the buttercream) or out of the striped shape?
my idea: pale yellow buttercream with turquoise sprinkles stripes around the cake, the top i would just pipe happy birthday and some florals.
is it possible?
thanks!!! <3

Amanda of I Am Baker did this:

She also made homemade sprinkles (yikes) and put the tutorial on Kitchen Daily:

Maybe you can get a better idea (if this is what you want) of how it's done.
Good luck! Make sure to check the rest of the blog. There are plenty good ideas there, including stripes INSIDE the cake! You could do that to and it would be a great surprise.
