I think what I would do is build a frame out of cloth covered wire then wrap each piece in white florist tape - to the thickness needed - then brush the metal parts over with nuSilver then make the seat and chair back out of gumpaste. Since it's just one of the elements on the cake it's going to be tiny and getting detail like that in gumpaste - that will hold together might be difficult. Another idea is Skulpy. Create the parts as if you were working with clay then bake them - then take the skulpy glue and put them together. This way she can keep this item forever on her desk as a reminder of her special graduation day.
