In a bakery, how much time is usually allowed to decorate each typical cake (fill, frost and decorate)? Are there exceptions to this time frame (excluding wedding cakes)?

I have never worked in a bakery, just from home. I may have an opportunity to work part time in one and know I am probably slow but I want to get an idea of how much I might be off the mark.

Thanks!! icon_biggrin.gif

in my shop a typical 8 inch cake to fill. frost and decorate will take appx 30-45 minutes if it's a fairly simple design, this includes a few mintues in the cooler to let my crumb coat set.

There are ALWAYS exceptions to this, depending on the type of frosting you are using and details and comfort level with the design.

also, some people can work quickly and still be precise and meticulous, others have to work slower to be precise.
