A friend of mine asked me to make a cake, a heart shaped cake with vines all on the outer edge with flowers, and the words Love Peace & Happiness making the shape of the peace sign with flowers and small cutout hearts, and the heart cake covered in a tie-die fondant. It will be a two layer cake, homemade fondant and possibly some other fun fondant items around the base of the cake to add to the fun hippie feel. How much should I charge her for this?

Most people charge by the serving, so its hard to tell what size your cake will serve, is it an 8" cake. Have you figured out how much the supplies will cost yet, that is a good starting point. Also might check with your local bakeries and see how you price would compare. Its tough one to answer.

I think the cake will be similar as a 9in round cake. Materials maybe $15 - $20. I was thinking of going to a cake shop and asking what they would charge and scale it down by a lot but to just get an general idea of what they charge for their time.

I would charge at least $50. But that's me personally though! Hope that helps!
