Try this link. It shows how to make a purse cake. I would carve it about the same then cover it with your fondant and stick your handle in the cake with dowl rods.....HTH

Norm Davis does a purse cake where he covers the cake in fondant from the bottom and gathers it at the top - very similar to what you ar trying to do. You can try searching his work and I will look to

carve a purse-looking shape and don't worry about all the gathers. You achieve that with the fondant.

thank you... i guess the real question should be how i achieve the gathers on the bag. i have seen some norm davis videos on monkey see but can't find the bag one
