I tried to make this cake for the first time and followed the receipe in Planet Cake book. Disaster! The cake over cooked on the outside and did not cook in the middle. Has anyone got any advise for me please? I am a novice baker and someone has asked me to make this for a wedding for them and I thought I would try the cake out first (thank goodness I did so no harm really with my disaster). What did I do wrong?

I don't have the Planet Cake book, but this is the recipe I use. It is very runny, but it should be. I bake my cakes at 315 or 325. Maybe try lowering the temp?? Here is a link to the recipe I use, it is for a dark chocolate mud cake, but if you scroll down there is the white variation, which is really just replacing the dark with the white in the recipe.

Thanks Holly hobby. The book said 350 ( i have electric fan oven so that equated to 180 degree C) I will try you receipe next and see if I have more success and also lower the oven. The book said 1 hour 40 minutes and I had to leave my cake in longer than that however your receipe is much quicker. My batter was very runny.
