I just found out that I can sell cakes out of my home so the copyright laws are a big issue now. I have heard so many conflicting opinions on this but I need to know what is legal and what is not.
I know it is illegal to make an image on the cake that is copyrighted, but can I buy a cake topper and put it on the cake and it be legal? Some people have said the customer would have to be the one to buy it and put it on themselves, other people say I can do that. What is the truth? What about even cakes like the Barbie doll cakes?

I have been looking at so many bakery websites and most of them sell so many cakes that are copyrighted characters, such as Thomas, Sesame Street, etc. How can they do that legally? One bakeries website actually talked about ordering a cake and said that if your child loves a certain cartoon character, let them know and they can design a cake of it. Almost all their cakes were characters.
