I buy my fondant pre-colored red. I tried to color it red myself but after having to put so much color in it to get red, it changed the consistency of the fondant.

I have heard some people say color it pink first, then add the red.

Ive used gel coloring .. When you first dye your fondant red it may look pink instead of red but for some reason if you let the fondant sit for a couple hours it changes to a deeper red. THis has worked for me ..

There is a recipe on here for red fondant that uses red candy melts in it to get the right red color.
