I have tried using dragees in the past, they really do accent a cake nicely, but my family complains that they are too hard and "about break your teeth".

Are all dragees hard, are they really meant to be eaten?
thanks

The super shiny ones are hard. They're technically edible, but it's one of those things where they have warnings that in some states they're not considered to be edible. I think the coating on them is probably okay in tiny amounts, but you shouldn't drink a bucket of it.

I make my own pearls out of fondant, they're not as super shiny but they won't break Grandma's dental work if she bites down on one.
