hi everyone! how can i prevent my fondant covered cakes from cracking? i've used a 12-inch hummingbird cake on the bottom, and an 8-inch chocolate cake on top. i've used wooden skewers for support and it still cracked. any suggestions on how do go about this issue? thanks.

Sounds like your fondant is too dry and rolled out too thin. Use more shortening and kneed it some more. I've noticed that mine cracks when I roll it out too much. Hope this helps.

And if you do get cracks, melt some fondant and use it like spackle icon_smile.gif

What do you hav e the cake on? It's possible the bottom board is not sturdy enough. Double your cake board or use something more durable.
