I've always used Wilton brand gumpaste so far and it works fine. But just realized that I can get a much better price on a 5 lb. bucket from GSA. But don't won't to buy that much if it's not as good as the Wilton. Any advice from those experienced with the Satin Ice gumpaste? Thanks in advance.

I don't like Satin Ice gumpaste as much as I like Wilton. I found that the Satin Ice behaved too much like regular fondant. It took too long to dry and didn't have the stretchiness of Wilton.

I always have problems finding Wilton gumpaste that is fresh and doesn't have hard pieces in it but I like the way it works much better than Satin Ice. That is just my opinion.

I have only ever used satin ice and I like it, but again....I have nothing to compare it to.

I've used both and tend to like Satin Ice more. I usually use a 50/50 mix of gumpaste & fondant for modeling though.

Just be careful because even though the Satin Ice might be cheaper from GSA you'll need to figure in the shipping charges. Found them (GSA) to be quite high.

I agree with KathysCC. Satin Ice is too soft for me. I like Wilton premade(i check really good for the soft pks. and there is plenty. sometimes you will feel hard places) I don,t like the Wilton from the can that you have to mix. Wilton premade dries quick . and so does Nick Lodges recipe(favorite with most decorators). hth

I just tried Satin Ice gumpaste last month for the first time (I got a great deal because of Global Sugar Art's sale), I'm very glad I tried it because I do prefer it to the Wilton gumpaste.

I like the Satin Ice way better!! And GlobalSugarArt is expensive to ship, but being in NY, I always get it the next day! Thw Wilton always seems too dry for my liking.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Seems like it's about 50/50 (some for Wilton, some for Satin Ice). I do hate the little hard bits also in the Wilton but usually just pick them out if I can't knead them out. Just wish GSA sold a 2 lb. bucket so I could try it out for myself.

Thanks again!!

Global Sugar Art does carry 2 lb buckets of the Satin Ice. That's what I bought last month- I just checked and they are still having the sale $8.84 for 2 lb, where I was buying the Wilton for close to $10 for 1 lb. For me, even with shipping (I was ordering other items anyway) it was worth it.

the coupons at michaels and ac moore, etc. make the wilton cheaper. I always buy several pks with a 50% coupon. Just check the pks. good. Michaels always makes it good if you get a bad pk. There is always a bad pk, or bucket in any brand. I work with wilton premade or make nick lodge. sometime , there are hard places in nicks. so be it. hth

I much prefer the Satin Ice gumpaste. Although for fondant, I highly recommend FondX. But I still get gumpaste from Satin Ice.

Icer101 are you using the packaged gumpaste from Nick Lodge or his recipe? The packaged gumpaste from Nick Lodge is Albert Uster gumpaste.

Where can I get the Nick Lodge recipe? Also, HappyCakes, went to GSA and the only thing that comes up when I search for Satin Ice Gumpaste is the 5 lb. bucket. Maybe they've discontinued selling it in 2 lbs.?

Here is the link: http://www.globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=19939&name=Gumpaste%202%20pounds%20by%20Satin%20Fine%20Foods

I didn't find it by the search function though... I chose Satin Ice under "Brands" on the left margin menu, it's on the first page of results. Hope this helps icon_smile.gif

Thanks HappyCake. Kind of strange that it doesn't come up via search. But I've got it now.
