Ok, I know in previous times there's been a few threads about cowgirl hats. They all seem to use gumpaste. I've never used gumpaste (or rather tried it yet).

Ok so a friend of mine wants me to make this cake for her daughter (she found it online somewhere), not for sure how I can do the hat. I was thinking I could shape the hat out of rice treats then cover with modeling chocolate, but not sure I could do the brim with the rice treats????

I couldn't get the picture to post by itself so you'll have to go to my link to see it.¤t=cakes2.jpg

Any ideas?[/url]

I think you have the right idea for the hat. Use the RKT and cover with modeling chocolate.

I would just use the same modeling chocolate for the brim. No need to try to make it out of the RKT, it would be to thick. The modeling chocolate will allow you to form the shape of the brim and would hold the shape. You might need to place some paper towel or something under the edges for a few minutes, but if the modeling chocolate isn't too thick, it should hold the shape on its own.

Plus, by using the same thing that you covered the hat with, you don't have to worry about it matching. It will match perfectly!

Thank you for responding.

I didn't think about just using the modeling chocolate by itself as the brim. I'm going to mess with it this weekend and see how it does. Her daughter's birthday isn't til 4/30 so I've got plenty of time to mess around with it.

Thanks again for responding.
