I did favors for a 16th birthday party a few months ago - we spelled out
Happy 16th Birthday John! (in all caps, but I didn't want to appear to be yelling ) They were decorated in orange/blue/white for his favorite sports team. Simple flooding/outlining and block letters to keep it masculine. If you didn't want to buy cutters (or hand cut, like I did), you could use round cutters and pipe one letter onto each cookie.
