How to I make this large gumpaste rose and attach it to a buttercream cake so it doesn't fall off? I hope I attached the link correctly!
How about making the center of the rose on a wooden dowel and attaching some of the outer petals to it, inserting it into the cake at a downward angle? I could make the individual larger petals on wires and insert them into straws?? It seems like it could be easier than this. Any ideas?

Sylvia Weinstock had many of her large flowers made on what appeared to be bamboo skewers on a TV special I saw a few years ago. Don't see why your idea wouldn't work. The individual petals should stay in place with just gum glue - dont' think wires would be necessary.
