I am making a wedding cake that is very simple and organic in feel. The bride wants two tree branches to wrap around the cake, but not lay on the cake. I was thinking of covering heavy gauge wire with brown fondant. Does anyone have any tips or experience on this. I want them to look fairly realistic.

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks

Personally, I'd use chocolate to do that. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to cover wire in gumpaste. Here's a blog post that describes how I did some trees that way. You'll just need to remember to bend the wire into the shape that you need it to be when it's done or the chocolate will crack off. http://acaketorememberva.blogspot.com/2011/01/trees-ibew-cake-part-3.html
