I am going to make an ice skate cake and a number 8 cake. I am wondering what is the best way to attach the skate to the number 8 cake? The cake is for an 8 year old girl and I am thinking on making the skate close to her size. Any ideas on what I would use for the blade? Thanks for your help.

I made a skate out of RCT, covered it in BC and then fondant. I made the blade separately out of gumpaste and painted it with lustre dust. Blade attached to skate with skewers and whole thing attached to cake with dowels. It's in my photos, I think. If you'd like more details please feel free to PM me. HTH icon_smile.gif

I would do the blade out of grey fondant mixed with tylose and let it dry. Then dry brush it with silver lustre dust and attach. I have found dry brushing by far the most effective for getting that look. Please post pics after!
