I am going to be making some penguins for a cake. I have not decided if I will do them in gum paste or fondant. They do not have to be eaten. My question how far in advance can I make them? If I use fondant? Gum paste? I can get black fondant easily I wasnt sure if I could make the gum paste black enough without making it to wet.
Thanks for your thoughts.

You can use either or - I made fondant penguins (See pic) a week in advance - and were still soft enough to eat
I also used black food coloring (a lot) and they turned out fine!
