I recently did a guitar ( in my pics ) & I debated for a long time what to use...I ended up using piping gel tinted with silver luster dust to pipe the strings on. it worked for me...hope this helps!

Is this a 2 inch gumpaste decoration or a 2 foot cake?

When I read your caption, the first thing I thought of was spaghetti noodles. They are the correct color and if uncooked, they won't be hard to place.

I used gumpaste mix and made it thin enough to pipe with. I piped on the strings and when they dried, they were hard.

I did one with thin spagetti and painted it with silver. It looked cool.
