i need a layer cake recipe for an apple cake. i just want clear tart apple flavor...not the traditional apple cake with cinnamon and nutmeg, or raisins or nuts. just apple all the way icon_smile.gif. something tart and zingy, like granny smith...not like applesauceicon_smile.gif.

been searching the site and the internet but have not yet seen anything i think fits the bill.

can anyone help?

thank you!
diane

Are you talking like the apple cake that Ikea sells?

The only apple cake that I know uses tart apples and is different from the one we're used to is a sharlotka. There are many recipes on the internet. Here's one. It's a very simple cake.

Do you mean like an Apple martini? Bright green artificial flavor?

I would use a white cake mix and then see if I could find green apple kool aid mix (the plain packets) and add that. Plus maybe get some green apple flavoring oil as well.... but the kool aid would add the tartness. If you use the oil, may want to add citric acid and green food coloring as well, I guess, to get the tart flavor????

i was hoping to get the flavor with real apples (and avoid a green color), but yes, the taste feel would probably be apple martini-like or like a green apple hard candy.
