Why does my butter cream frosting crack? I use Indydebi's crisco based frosting recipe and smooth the frosting with the foam roller. If you look at my paintball cake you can see all the major cracks. The cracks usually happen about an hour or so after it is frosted. I had a double cake board under the cake. Help why does this happen to me? Thanks icon_smile.gif

I have never had that happen when I have used Indydeb's icing. Maybe she will see your post and comment on it.

I've had this happen a few times too...same recipe, doubled cake board....cake looks awesome and about an hour or 2 later, tons of cracks. I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas.

I found the problem to be the board. I use 4 boards vs. 2 and don't see the issue any more.

still sounds like you need more support. Soemtimes a double board isn't enough depending on the type of board your using and whether your cake is 2" tall or 4" tall and what kind of filling you have in it.
