Man- Go Away For 3 Days And Come Back To 4,000 Posts!!
Decorating By GHOST_USER_NAME Updated 8 Mar 2005 , 6:32am by GHOST_USER_NAME
I went to a friend's 3 hours a way for 3 days just for a little caking get-a-way. We both had a blast.
We didn't really learn anything new, it wasn't meant for that. But we worked on the skills we already had making new designs.
We purchased a polymer clay book and pulled out the fondant:

The last time I made booties was with a paper pattern. Now I have the cutters. Major difference in how easy it all goes together!!! Worth the $8!!!

And as a side note....
Joan and I at our church's Couple's Blessing Crowning Ceremony. Joan's not thrilled with flowers in her hair. She was a very good sport though!
It ended up being a lovely ceremony. I made 12 sets of crowns, each set different and with the couple in mind.

Thanks for looking!
I also had a blast catching up on all I missed.
LOL!! See..that will teach you not to go away again! Just kidding...hope you had a great time!
Looks like you had a great time!! Thanks for sharing you pics with us~ Like that little girl is so cute! She looks like a fairy or a rag doll. How cute.
According to the book she is a flower fairy.... It was a book on "woodland creatures."
Thanks!
Dawn,
Where did you get the bootie cutters? Also, do you know where to get cutters to make little boxes for individual wedding favours?
Thanks in advance,
Suzanne M.
P.S. I like the crowns!
Thanks, cookieman- actually we're going into our 8th year very soon. This was a Valentines service at church for couples. It was very fun.
suzyqqq27- I got my cutters from a friend who had an extra set. I know that CK sells them and I have an on-line friend that sells for very decent prices. I'll get her information and post it here as soon as she send it to me. CK also sells the box sets you're talking about. I also have lots of molds for boxes and babies and cribs and such.
Is this the type of bootie cutter you are talking about Dawn?

By the way, my partner and I are into our 10th year!

That's them!!! I used a paper pattern before made from the diagram they are showing on that very page, which I'll be glad to email mine (ready to print) to anyone who wants it. But these cutters were worth every penny- so much easier. I paid around $8 with shipping.
Congratulations on your ceremony, Ms. Dawn! Wishing you guys many more happy years together!
Congratulations to you, too Cookieman!
I would love the bootie instructions. My e-mail address is [email protected].
Well, that's another item to add to my shopping cart at Global Sugarart!
And thanks prettytoya!
Anytime! I've only been married for 3 years, so I look like an amateur compared to you guys! LOL! I'm sure we'll all have many happy years together!
prettytoya- you will last forever if you remember just a few tiny little details:
It's not the end of the world if he throws his socks on the floor (or whatever little bad habit he may have).
As long as he works hard to support you and the babies and comes home to where he belongs, he can throw his socks anywhere he wants.
Remember to love him and give him kisses when he least deserves it.
You'd be surprised at how how happy you both will be and how willing he will be to watch the sock tossing if YOU keep your attitude in check. Conventionally speaking, men are very easy to please and truly just want to please their woman. It's women who have the attitudes. So, if we watch ours, they kind of just fall in to step.
Oh yeah.. back to topic... hahahahaha......
Your bootie pattern is on the way.
Cali4dawn,
Wow, I borrowed several books about polymer clay from the library to try and make some items out of fondant and/or gumpaste. Its great to know that someone else had that same idea. Your flower fairy is cute! I haven't made anything yet but now that I've seen your results, I'm gonna get busy. Thanks for sharing! Oh any tips? Did you have any unusual problems?
prettytoya,
I also have been married three years. Good luck. Thanks for the info Dawn. My husband is bad about taking off his socks and shoes and leaving them wherever. I'll try to be a little more lenient with him . With him, a two year old, and a seven month old, it seems like all I ever do is pick up dirty clothes...but there aren't another three people in the world that I would rather pick up after.
Congratulations and good luck to you!
I have almost as many polymer clay books as I do cake decorating books... They are great for fondant ideas. I have the same book that you made the fairy from too! My son likes to make things in clay while I make cake items. I also use non-drying clay to practice with before making the item in fondant. It's cheaper that way...
Debbie
cali4dawn-- which book did you use. I would love to make the angel. Can you also send me the baby bootie pattern? [email protected]
prettytoya,
but there aren't another three people in the world that I would rather pick up after.
That's the point right there!!!! How many divorces have we seen that are because the wife is just too naggy....
So, smile, give kisses... and keep the family intact... that's the bottom line. I like when Dr. Phil says... "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happily married?"
That's kind of sums it all up right there.

It was pretty much by the book. We had to make a few minor changes do to the differences. We did the hair different. But most of all just follow the directions. It was pretty much that easy.
I've used play-dough to practice for fondant many times. It really helps and not as costly.
I also grew up playing with lots of clay.
Mchelle- Booties are on the way
The clay book is a Book for Kids and Polymer clay. I don't have it in hand right now- It's at ladycakes house. I did go and purchase another one yesterday.... so I'll be playing (and posting) again very soon!
Dawn such wonderful words of wisdom from such a wise woman-I will DEFINITELY take them to heart! I got my pattern and sent you a short e-mail thanking you for all of your help. Many happy years to you and your partner!!!
Congratulations, Sweeterbug!
Dawn,
First I want to Thank You for emailing the price matrix to me it was greatly appreciated. I was wondering if you could email me the booty pattern? Thank you in advance for your time. My email address is [email protected].
Thanks Dawn. I got some playdoh today. Can't wait to start practicing.
It works really well for practicing. It's a hint softer... but still good for practice. and you can roll and reroll and reroll and reroll........ and and and
cake77 : Done!!
Hi cali4dawn!
Would you be willing to email me the pricing matrix and bootie templates? My email is [email protected]
I just finished reading these posts and I must say your words of wisdom brought tears to my eyes. My husband works harder than anyone I know and he does it all to support us....thank you for that reality check. He will be getting a well deserved kiss when he gets in tonight! No problem with the socks though, that's my little bad habit!!! My congratulations also on your 8 years together. That is no small feat these days!
Thank you,
Tripletmom
Hi cali4dawn!
No problem with the socks though, that's my little bad habit!!!
hehehehehehe- me too!! Joan lays clothes on the floor in front of the hamper instead of in the hammer (I don't know why) but at least she gets them in the right room. Me, however, I literally have socks all over the house!!
Thank you for the nice compliment. Joan also goes to work every day to support our home. I do not work outside this house. The few dollars I make selling cakes wouldn't feed a mouse. She busts butt and makes sure I can go on cake retreats and have plenty of cake toys. When we had a child in the house he lacked for nothing. I still say if she messes up once in awhile (and I mean rarely- she is so good) and says something stupid or forgets to do a simple chore.... she still deserves a kiss and lot of understanding. I've learned to when it's the hardest thing to do.
