Hello! I will soon be starting a four tiered fondant covered cake that I want to cover with scrollwork. My plan is to make gold icing and then go back and paint the scrollwork with gold lustre dust.

My question is, what do you recommend for piping the scrollwork? Buttercream or royal icing? Will the buttercream holdup to the painting of lustre dust/vodka mixture? Will the royal icing crack on the cake when transported??

Any advice would be appreciate. Much thanks and have a wonderful day!

Royal icing all the way. Stands up to painting and is great for traveling.
