I thought I'd never see the day that someone would make a BC cake on a TV competition. Not only did Bronwyn Weber do it, she actually won!!! Maybe there is hope that fondant won't completely take over the world!
It was a beautiful cake!!!!! She deserved that win. I just wish I had a tiny little shred of her talent.
I can't tell you how much I LOVE that she won with buttercream!! That is TRUE cake decorating IMO! GO BRONWEN!!
Is there a picture of it somewhere? I don't have cable, but would love to see it. Thanks!
Fantastic!! Can anyone tell me what program this was on? Would love to watch this competition.
I was also pleasantly shocked of a BC cake on "Challenge"....gotta say though, I expected more from the infamous Bronwen Weber. I wasn't all that impressed. But I'm a huge BC snob.
Her piping was AWESOME! Can you imagine that pressure? Only 9 hours to do it all, have to meet the 6' height requirement, out of your element as far as doing all this 'on the road' in a foreign kitchen, having hundreds of eyes fixed on everything little thing you are doing (audience and crew) and cameras filming your every move to broadcast to millions...whew! I'm nervous just thinking about it! Those people that compete on these challenges are just amazing...my hats off to them!!!
I sent an e-mail to the Food Network last week asking for an all buttercream cake challenge.
Long live BUTTERCREAM!!!
I am a total fondant person, but thats only because I know that being able to decorate using only buttercream is way harder.
So hats off to all of you that can do it, and its always nice to see someone win on challenge that truly deserves it.
I missed most the show last night as I was watching the grandchildren.
Hats off to Bronwen. I have only in the last 3 years been doing fondant for other than an occasional accent on a cake.
So while I think fondant is beatiful Bronwin showed that you can do a lot with buttercream.
I love buttercream so I was pleasantly shocked to see her on there last nite w/such ambition in an 8 hr time limit.. & to win.. her design wasn't "easy" either so Hats OFF.. She Rocks!!!
While I wasn't that wild about that particular cake, I was thrilled to see someone finally doing a buttercream cake on challenge, and even more thrilled that it actually won!! Hopefully we'll see more!
I didn,t see the show. Wish i had watched it. I just took the fabulous nicholas lodge r/i 2 day class. It was wonderful ,but hard. He says they are trying to bring back some of the old school decorating, etc. I just love all the ways of decorating cakes. How do you go about seeing this cake now.
Fantastic!! Can anyone tell me what program this was on? Would love to watch this competition.
I too would like to know what show this was. I don't get the Food network channel, but I would love to see the cake.
the program is 'food network challenge' just had a look round the website - and im sure its gotten worse and less user friendly! pretty sure they used to have more video clips - at the time they were only accessable in the USA though. anyway, couldnt find any clips or pictures, or on google. im sure it will get picked up by the cake blogs though!
xx
The episode will be airing again tomorrow, Nov 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the US. I'm setting the DVR!
Her cake was marvelous! WTG!! :0) Very impressive on Challenge!! (and, in the "real world" too!!
crap I didnt see this yet....grrrrrrrrr now i know the winner....but I always root for Bronwen
The only thing that would've made it better, IMHO , would've been if they'd shown them stacking the BC tiers. They kept alluding to how hard it is, if you stick your thumb in the frosting it can't be fixed, etc. It would've made for exciting TV if they'd have shown some of that!
Bronwen is the bomb! Not one leaning cake in her tower of beautiful buttercream either! I loved taking classes from her, she is just like she is on TV too. A GREAT win!!
Yes Bronwen was AWESOME!!! as usaual!!!! I was so happy she beat the lady who only cared about beating Bronwen and not the clients
Teecakesandcookies -- I agree. I was really hoping that lady wouldn't win. All she was interested in was beating Bronwen. I think her priorities should have been elsewhere -- like on the outcome of the cake for the couple! I thought Bronwen's cake was awesome and I really liked the idea that it was BC. I also agree that it would have been nice to see them stacking the cakes since they kept saying it was so difficult with BC. I'm just getting into decorating (hasn't even been a year yet) but I really like the piping method of decorating. I wish I could take some classes on the Lambeth method, but there's nothing like that around here!
Bronwen did an amazing job. Her cake was awesome and she is an awesome person and a fantastic teacher. She is so much fun to learn from and so helpful in her classes.
I am so very happy Bronwen won!!! The other lady (can't recall her name) just kept on saying how much she wanted to win over Bronwen...She annoyed me...To do all that work with buttercream and win...awesome!!!!I feel fondant work is easier. Alot of it is cutting out and rolling out...More talent when u are actually using buttercream...Just my opinion...
Bronwen did an outstanding job.....as usual...So happy she won.......she is quite an inspiration to all of us cake decorators.. talant, poise and humble.

I don't know where you are in California, but Kathleen Lange http://confectionarychalet.com/
is in the San Diego area and teaches Lambeth. If you are not near San Diego, please give her a call and she will be able to let you know of any Lambeth teachers in your area.
crap I didnt see this yet....grrrrrrrrr now i know the winner....but I always root for Bronwen
My thoughts too. I was hoping it was an old challenge, oh well
I also love Bronwen - she has a great personality and great attitude. I hate the decorators that take themselves way too seriously and freak out whenever stuff goes wrong
