I need to paint gold on something and I tried using gold luster dust with alittle alchohol but it came out really light. Any suggestions on what to use to get a rich gold color?

Use less alcohol or wait till it evaopates more and make a second & third coat if necessary--see if that doesn't help. Sounds like you just need a greater concentration of dust.

I made gold not too long ago and had the same problem. I would probably have colored my fondant before I started putting the gold on it. I am interested to hear the responses to this question too!

I colour fondant before painting on metallic lustre (yellow fondant for gold, orange for copper, grey for silver)

Thank you all for your help! I will try to color it yellow and then do the luster dust with a little less alchohol and see if that helps. icon_biggrin.gif
