I was just watching Elisa strauss video on Youtube where she is making a 3D dog for her Dad's 60th birthday..She uses 1 inch pound cake rounds..Does this make the structure sturdier?I notice she uses thin ake boards in between..do you poke holes in them beforehand so you can slip dowels down and through??

If I were to bake these cakes can I use my regular round pans? How much batter do I put in the pan?Should I use a pound cake recipe or a sponge cake recipe?

Any help would be appreciated...

IMHO, I think it would be easier to use a jelly roll pan and cut out the sizes needed.

Cake Boss type sponge cake:
