I'm doing a last minute BD cake for my niece (25yo). I was thinking about creating a cake that looks like a pie - perhaps a pumpkin pie because of the time of the year. I'm thinking about a pumkin cake baked in a pie plate to give it the shape of a pie, and using fondant for the "crust". Am I on the right track? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

yup! icon_smile.gif I've done several "pie" cakes in my years in decorating. For a fruit pie I did a lattice top. Gave it some realism with airbrusing. Very cute.

Be sure to post a pic when you are done! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for the response! I'm assuming you did the lattice in fondant? Did the fruit discolor or bleed through the fondant?
