I did a soccer ball a while back. You put a pentagon on top, then each side of that is one side of a hexagon, then the bottom edge of each of those hexagons is the top of another hexagon with a pentagon horizontally in-between them. Does that make sense? Check my profile for the soccer cake if you like, it may help.
