Depends on what you are wanting. Fruit, Sponge, Chocolate etc.

Well, this is my first time doing a wedding cake. Probably will be 3 tiered. So, was just wondering what kind of cake would hold up best.

whatever the bride and groom want. The cake itself doesn't hold up the tiers above it, the support system within the cake does (dowels and plates) You can do an angel food, sponge, box mix (or modified box), scratch recipe, or a pound cake of some sort.
