I really love making toppers out of fondant/gumpaste and standing them on the cake with the lollipop stick. The problem I have is the back of them. I attach the stick with candy melts and then cover that with a strip of fondant. But it just looks so ugly!

Does anyone do something different to the backs of toppers to make them prettier? I think it would be too time consuming to make the image twice (for the back) but maybe another way to make it look nice?

I usually cut out two of the shapes that will be the topper and put my flat craft sticks between the two layers. The sticks don't show, and if it is a design like a star or leaf-and not a number-I decorate both sides.
