How Do I Support A "real" Cake

Hi, I just did this dummy cake and the separators are polystyrene dummies covered in ribbon. On a "real" cake, would I place the separators in a board, then dowel the cake as usual to support the cake? In case the picture doesn't come up here, it's the Blue Hydrangea Cake in the profile. Thank you.

Yes, you would put the separators on a board to prevent the support dowels from piercing the dummy separators.
