I am doing a cake that will be threaded on a large PVC pipe. Kind of like a caddy wampus design. But I'm worried about how to fill the cake. I have two cakes that will have buttercream filling and one will have fruit. When I tort and fill the cakes do I cut a hole in the cakes first and put a damn around the whole and then fill or do I wait and cut the hole after I have filled and frosted the entire cake. The diameter of the pole is about 1 1/2". I have a 12", 9" and 6" cake that will go on the pole. I just don't want the filling to get all over the pole as there are spaces inbetween each tier.

Any suggestions would be greatful. This is for a wedding this Friday and I'm getting a little bit nervous.

Thanks a bunch.
