I have always used Sweetex for years, but have seen various other brands mentioned here on CC. What are some of the different brand names that you all have tried with good results. I am going to check with a new supplier in my area and want to be able to have them check other brands/prices.

I am currently using a brand called Bake Sense, and it's fantastic and much less expensive than Sweetex.

I've heard that Alpine is good. I'm thinking about buying it because it's the only hi ratio shortening that I know of in this area, but ALOT of people are die hard Sweetex fans and swear nothing else is as good - so I'm kind of nervous about making the switch. Not alot of people like Penguin brand from what I've read... and it's been 50/50 with the Country Kitchen brand.

I've always had good success with CK brand.

Where do you buy your shortening? We buy Sweetex Z (no trans fats, its the law in CA) from BakeMark, a regional distributor, for ~$80 per 50 pound block.

FYI, CK is just rebranded Bake Sense shortening.
