I am entering in 2 categories in the Tulsa show: Baking and Adult Beginner Novelty Cakes. This is my first cake contest ever. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? What the judges are looking for, techniques to use, transportation, etc. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
I suggest going to past winners websites. A lot of them list tips on what to do and what not to do at shows. I know Earlene Moore's site has one www.earlenecakes.com, and also Ruth Rickey's site www.sweetjustice.com.
I recommend this site for first timers--www.oksugarartshow.com
It has tips, older photos from shows, and links.
Here are the top few...

Dear Cake buddies! This was my first year to enter in the OSSAS...it was super fun!!! I went last year for the first time to observe and take notes...so I had to try it this year and walked away as a silver finalist! MY QUESTION: Is there a place that we can find out our exact ranking? It is hard to explain to my friends what "silver finalist" means...so it would be nice to have a number and what to strive for next year! Thanks! Sweeto's
