Topsy Turvey Question...how Many Cakes!!

So initially I was only going to bake 2 cakes for each tier (each cake being 2" tall) but now looking at them stacking in my freezer, it doesn't look like it will be tall enough. If you can't tell this is my first topsy turvey cake! I am also thinking maybe the bottom and top layer I might do 3 cakes and leave the middle with 2...or would that look silly! Any input would be great!!

I did my first topsy turvy cake last week, there is a article that shows exactly how to do this. Each layer is three cakes hight (you cut the top layer in half side ways) and re-stack it rotating 180* (that is what makes the slant. The article shows step by step how to do this. I don't explain very well.
