I got a request for a girl turning 6 with 100% control over design. I asked her father what she likes and he said Dora. Ok, personally I think she's a little old to have a Dora cake (it wasn't requested by him) so I really didn't want to do a one for her. If he didn't have a specific theme, I was going to do something girly in her favorite colors.

Today her father had a cute little bag (think makeup case with a zipper) with girly things inside. The print was of these little girls and he let me inspect it; the tag said "Harajuku" on it. I never heard of them before so I asked if it was on tv; he said yes on channel 13 (PBS). I search my cable guide, yahoo and google. I couldn't really find too many images to get a lot of inspiration from. I don't think they're really a cartoon; I believe they are a japanese girl group or a style of dress that japanese girls wear. What I saw on the bag was a cartoon of little girls with big faces and I saw pale pink and blue skies with clouds.

Anyone know what I am referring to; have any cartoom images (besides the very little I've found so far); or have any cake photo inspirations? Sorry so long; TIA.

Yummy, Harajuku girls are Gwen Stefani's dancers ( I guess, my 13 yr old may know more about that than me) but she has a line of perfumes called Harajuku Lovers and the bottles are these cute cartoon versions of them. My daugher has them all.

You can Google Harajuku Lovers by Gwen Stefani and their website should come up.

Hope that helps.

Denise

The design of the Harajuku Lovers perfume bottles closely resembles Kokeshi dolls. Maybe you could made a custom Kokeshi doll design that she would like?

What I found online is that it is a Japanese animation that has turned into a fashion statement.

You might want to consider doing an international search for images to find what you need.

Thank you everyone! When I did my search, Gwen Stefani's name kept coming up; silly me thought she was one of the voices of the girls in the cartoon. LOL

Gwen Stefani has 2 lines of clothing and accessories. Harajuku Lovers being the younger and more affordable line and L.A.M.B. being an older and more expensive line. I consider myself a Gwen Stefani aficionado and love her and pretty much anything she does. I have done a FBCT of her cartoon Harajuku Lovers character for a cake before.

I'm pretty sure the little girl is into the Harajuku Lovers from Gwen Stefani, not on the Japanese-style of dressing. I love those dolls too and I'm grown up!

Yummy, if you want to take a good look at them, Lord & Taylor website has good photos, and you can put your cursor over their faces and enlarge.

Now I want a cake with all of them around!
